THE SECRET WEAPON OF MOSQUITOES HAS BEEN REVEALED!!!!!
One
night in my Hostel while at Abia State University, one of my protégés came to
sleep with me in my room. My room is normally crowded, because everyone wants
to be around star boy.😎
He
was sleeping like Jonah in the belly of Titus and snoring like an old OX fan;
me I couldn’t even grab some shut-eye, why? Our friendly neighborhood “mosquies”.
These ones flew in from Germany; they had chainsaw like proboscis (that long
thing in their mouth) and they flew with military precision; it was like they
knew when I was about to sleep and they attacked anytime my eyes was shutting. To
my surprise, they didn’t attack this fellow that was in gear four. Ah-ah! What kind
of Ojoro is this one? Why would I suffer like this? Snoring plus mosquito bite?😱😱
Well,
I think I have an answer to this.
Just
like you reject certain food (like close-up and grilled Okra soup), mosquitoes
also have their favourite blood types to feed on. They need your blood to
develop fertile eggs, and they are picky in their quest for a blue-blood. So, here
are some reasons why Mosquitoes don’t devour everyone:
1) Your blood type: there are
four basic blood types that humans possess, A, B, AB, and O. your blood is
classified based on the presence or absence of certain antibodies/antigenic
substances on the surface of your blood cells. Your blood type is inherited and
remains the same for life. It could change because you got a bone marrow (the
primary production site for red blood cells) transplant or a disease that
affects the blood. An article uploaded by online journal BioOne Complete carried by a group of Japanese scientists in 2004,
showed that Mosquitoes are attracted more to those of blood group O than any
other blood group. Mosquitoes can determine what blood type you are by the
secretions that you emit from your skin; these secretions are peculiar to the
blood type you possess.
2) Metabolism rate: if your
body works really fast and burns off energy, you would know by the amount of Carbon
dioxide and heat your body emits. Mosquitoes can sense this from a mile. They use
this to know that a warm blooded host and an all-night buffet is around the
corner. Those of you that are forming thin, tall and sexy, come and see why
Mosquitoes are drinking you dry.
3) Smelly, sweaty bodies
(feet, especially): don’t be surprised but, research has shown that the Malaria
parasite, Plasmodium falciparum
(falci baba) manipulates the mosquitoes that are infected with it to be drawn
to human sweat. The parasite completes its cycle inside the human liver, and at
that needs you to survive (I need you to survive…). So, it makes the mosquitoes
want to suck your blood more often (and maybe eventually get squashed). So, those
stinky socks, smelly underwear that are your saving plan for sweat, they are the
exact things that hungry infected mosquitoes love.
4) Finally, the kind of
clothing you wear also makes them want you so badly. Even in the human world,
we are so attracted to people with a high fashion sense; so are the “mosquies”.
They just love your fashion; that’s why they hate bright colored clothing. They
are more attracted to darker colors because it conceals them, bright colors makes
it easy to notice them.
That’s it ladies and gentlemen, the reason why I was
almost munched to insanity by mosquitoes. Oh, before I forget, research shows
that mosquitoes are attracted to people who are already infected by the
parasite because the parasite makes the body release certain secretions that
attract the mosquito.
Please get a
mosquito net, mosquito repellent, or a dog that can sniff out if you are
infected by malaria parasite so you could get treated quickly.
Wait, you don’t think dogs can do that? They can
actually sniff out the scent of someone who is infected with the malaria parasite.
You can watch the TED video. Thank me later.
